Objectives

Cognizant worked with Hands On CSR to fulfill their objective of corporate social responsibility with objectives of:

• Visiting the areas around Nelamangala and Doddaballapura for ideation of the project.
• The association wished to interact with the small land-holding farmers to discuss different aspects and challenges of a farmer’s life.
• A field visit for farmer interaction was done to initiate the best and most advantageous farming practices like ZBNF (Zero budget Natural Farming).
• The company aims to provide the best educational, financial and technical support to those farmers.

The company was registered in March 2005 as a “Charitable Company” as per the Indian Companies Act. The Cognizant Foundation intends to help unprivileged people like poor farmers to receive the best knowledge.

Partnering with Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) along with educational institutions, healthcare institutions, and the government, Cognizant ensures corporate social responsibility.

Hands On CSR’s solutions

When Hands On CSR identified the CSR goals and objectives of the company, a set of effective solutions were devised and planned.

• A day full of social engagement projects was designed and executed on 13th Jan 2019. Many Cognizant volunteers were taken to the site of Nelamangala and Doddaballapura for ideation of the project.
• Hands On CSR facilitated Cognizant associates to join the cause and assist farmers with the best natural farming activities and practices.
• The volunteers ensured that the farmers learned about natural farming, got involved in intense farming discussions, became a part of the organic farmers association, and conducted innovative organic farming activities.
• The volunteers on-field made the farmers comfortable by ensuring maximum interaction. This allowed the farmers to share their challenges, grievances, queries, and concerns.

Results Achieved

The results that were accomplished as a part of this project, were lucrative for farmers. Cognizant volunteers’ efforts were much appreciated.

• The program with the farmers brought awareness to both the volunteers as well as farmers. While the volunteers understood how the farmers function, the farmers got to know about various new and advanced natural farming techniques.
• The farmers now know about more efficient and well-planned farming methods to produce profitable results. The volunteers also talked about better selling techniques with them.
• It was observed that the farmers were keen to learn the best practices to reduce their workload and make the process much quicker and more efficient.
• Due to the improved interaction between the farmers and volunteers, the goal of creating a happy and enriching environment was met.
• Due to the coworking and continuous interaction amongst the company employees, the objectives of team building and leadership skills of the volunteers were also met. Working together for a social cause made them feel worthy and valuable.
• Cognizant associates promise future volunteering for the enrichment of the farming community in India.
• Cognizant created a strong bond between the company and the farming industry.
